Chapter 7

I spent the next few hours in deep thought. Things had moved way too fast and I held the blame for that shoulda known better. It was too late for that now though there was a kid involved, an innocent; it’s my job to protect the innocent. To be fair Nikki was an innocent as well but her hard headed approach was going to clash with me at every turn and I can’t see me putting myself through that shit for the rest of my life and that’s what marriage is, the rest of your fucking life.

After my time alone in my office I came to a final decision, the only decision really, no matter what I was going to be there for my kid, I’ll just have to get Nikki’s ass in line one way or the other. I’ve brought grown men to heel I don’t see why I couldn’t do the same with one little slip of a girl.

She flitted around me for the rest of the day trying to get my attention when she’d worked up her nerve she came and crawled into my lap and I’m such a fucking sap where she was concerned I felt my heart ease a little. Kissing her hair I gave her a slight tap on her ass before hugging her back.

“I wasn’t trying to hurt our baby Jeremy I promise, I was just so hurt that you went to see them even though I didn’t want you to it made me feel like you didn’t care about me, like I didn’t matter.”

“That’s fucking stupid babe, if I didn’t care I wouldn’t have told you I would’ve just gone to see them without saying anything to you did you ever think about that?”

“I’ve never really had a boyfriend before I don’t know how to deal with jealousy it looks like.”

“I’m a boyfriend? Damn.” She punched me in the gut and hugged me tighter.

“You’re my boyfriend.”

“That’s right baby, maybe you will remember that the next time I have to deal with a female and you lose your damn mind. No more going off on your own and if you ever leave without telling me again I will beat your ass.”

“Yes sir.”

“Smart ass.” Looks like things were back to normal at least for now, I had the feeling with this one I’ll always be kept on my toes.
